Research question:
How can we preserve traditions through games?
Our solution
Introducing traditional games to the public through a local traditional games fest
Date:
3rd July - 24th November 2023

Based on the feedback we received, our focus continues to be on improving the infographics and Paji, crafting our booklet, creating our social media presence, and designing promotional posters to engage audiences.

We started the project with the branding by choosing colors, primarily inspired by the shades commonly found in our culture. We enriched these colors with additional tones that complemented them, ensuring a lively and eye-catching visual attractiveness. began by choosing colors, primarily inspired by the shades commonly found in our culture. We did many round of test prints to get the right shade of colours for the project.

To enhance our branding, we decided to craft game-specific characters using materials similar to those used in the games. These characters will feature prominently on each Paji, aiding easy identification and differentiation.

After numerous iterations refining language and steps, we finalised our infographics. We added QR code links to provide video explanations, catering to those who prefer visual learning.

During tutorials, Tyler and AI offered valuable insights on the festival's presentation. The Paji concept resonated well with them, leading to the suggestion of having six infographics turned Paji(s) instead of having the map folded into a Paji. The idea is that these Paji(s) are easily portable and helps the ease of dissemination.

To overcome the issue of having people contantly around to faciliate the fest. We opted for a self-service approach where the participants would take the Paji from a dispenser and learn how to play traditional games. We built 6 dispensers by laser cutting plywood and glueing the pieces together using PVC glue. We discovered a website (https://en.makercase.com) to help us with our laser cutting file. The website has a feature which design boxes and generates the lines for laser cutting.

Regarding the toolkit concept, we are developing a booklet which serves as a guide to help others host their own traditional games fest. It explains the rationale behind preserving tradition, specifically through games. The booklet encompasses game templates, our traditional games infographics, instructions on playing Paji (a game complementing the infographics), and guidelines for hosting the fest.

As we approached the concept of the toolkit, we made the decision to create templates and include instructions for individuals to create their own games.

For festival promotion, we designed a few posters and set up a social media presence to showcase our games, encouraging people to share their experiences.
